TSMC's 2nm process is coming and will be mass-produced in the second half of the year!

On March 24, according to the latest report, TSMC will hold a 2nm expansion ceremony at its Kaohsiung plant on March 31, and will start accepting 2nm wafer orders on April 1. TSMC Chairman Wei Zhejia revealed that customer demand for 2nm technology even exceeds that of 3nm during the same period.


According to TSMC's plan, 2nm wafers will be mass-produced simultaneously at the Hsinchu Baoshan plant and Kaohsiung plant in the second half of this year. It is reported that TSMC's 2nm trial production yield at the Hsinchu Baoshan plant reached 60%; technology giants such as Apple, AMD, and Intel have already booked production capacity. According to the plan, TSMC's monthly production capacity will reach 50,000 pieces by the end of 2025, and will further increase to 120,000-130,000 pieces in 2026.

TSMC's 2nm process uses all-around gate (GAA) nanosheet transistor technology, which has achieved three major breakthroughs compared to the 3nm FinFET architecture:

Transistor density surges: The number of transistors per unit area increases by 15%, providing the hardware foundation for more complex AI computing power;

In addition, the SRAM density of the 2nm process reaches 38Mb/mm², the wire resistance is reduced by 20%, and combined with ultra-high-performance MiM capacitors, it can meet the needs of high-frequency computing scenarios.
